evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
our media product is simallar to any romantic drama in that there is a deccision involving the lead of wether to be with the woman who loves him or wether to be with the more attractive women who he desires but the twist in the film as you see in all films makes a big change to his life and keeps the audience interested.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

my media product represents middel class teenagers who share the typically intrests of there generation. The film offers an insite into modern day teenagers lifes for people who want to relive or remind themselfs of there younger selfs.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think the institution that would distribute this type of film is the internet because they have unlimited shelf space so would be able to cater for small low stream film production companies like mine. Big cinemas can only have a limited amount of films showing at one time so a less well known film such as mine would not make enough money for a cinema to show

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Women aged 20 - 30 are our target audience this is because on interviewing people we found that this age group had the highest percentage of people whose favourite movie genre was romantic drama.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Addressed the audience by making them feel empathy for the first female character this helps at a later point in the film where she has a tough decision we attract the audience with a poster that shows enough of the film to get people interested but not enough to give away the plot line.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
i have lernt how to use a video camera and how to use imovie on the apple macs I have also learnt how to work as a part of a team to compleate a task effectively

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

i have learnt how the way you position your camera can tell you alot about a charecter and you can use that to explain hirerachys

film prduction logo

this was one of our ideas for the film logo we thought it was classy and stylish but thought it was too plain and simple.
we thought this logo was good because it was quiet oldfashioned and we used the back and white to renforce that but we felt it gave of the wrong image.

bbfc classifacation

‘U’
Universal – Suitable for all
It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.

‘PG’
Parental Guidance
General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children
Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.

’12A’/’12

Suitable for 12 years and over
Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.

The ‘12A’ category exists only for cinema films. No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, and films classified ‘12A’ are not recommended for a child below 12. An adult may take a younger child if, in their judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.

No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work. Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised. Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised. There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’). The strongest terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable. Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely  to be acceptable unless justified by context.

No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video. In line with the consistent findings of the BBFC’s public consultations and The Human Rights Act 1998, at ‘18’ the BBFC’s guideline concerns will not normally override the principle that adults should be free to choose their own entertainment.

The ‘R18’ category is a special and legally restricted classification primarily for explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Films may only be shown to adults in specially licensed cinemas, and video works may be supplied to adults only in licensed sex shops. ‘R18’ video works may not be supplied by mail order.

The male lead is later involved in a serious road accident which brings the two sides of his life together. Slowly, while he is in hospital his life is exposed to both sides, as the audience you will side with the first woman because she is the only one doing the right thing but, as he is in hospital it gives him time to look over his life and he realises that he wants to be with the first woman. This will please the audience because it is giving the person they have sided with what they want. This will then be taken away from them as when he returns to her she dose not want him.

film deconstruction (saving private ryan)

Film deconstruction
Saving Private Ryan
Release year: 1998
Director: Steven Spielberg
BBFO rating: 15
Genre: action

The start of the film opens with war music called hymn to the fallen this shows that dead soldiers are being remembered it has a sad tone on top of the directors credits this sets the mood for the location of the film. The second shot shows an American flag flying in the wind there is some diagetic sound of the flag rustling the American flag represents unification as well as freedom. In the next shot there is our first character this suggests he is the main character it then shows a family walking behind him this is a reference to him being the frontline as he was on the frontline later in the film. One of the family members takes a picture of the man walking this shows it is not just a normal day, they are doing something he wants to remember. As the man is walking the camera shows his face so you see that he is sad, also it shows a medal on his chest this shows he was in the army. He stops and looks up at the American flag this shows he is American then the camera jump cuts to a French flag this shows that he is in France. He walks along grass towards a grave stone but as he gets closer you see it is unmarked and that there is more he walks past a man in full army uniform with lots of medals this shows he is not the only war veteran visiting. He walks past some more graves as if he knows where he is going but you soon see as the camera pans out that there are thousands of graves this shows that lots of people died here and so many unnamed graves.

film deconstruction (spider-man)

Film deconstruction
SPIDER-MAN
Release year: 2002
Director: Sam Raimi
BBFO rating: 12
Genre: action

The first two minutes of this film is the credits but what goes on behind the credits tells you a lot about the film for instance the first shot is of a comic strip this shows that it is going to stay true to the comic book version of the story also the comic strip is scrolling very fast coupled with a urgent sound track this gives a suspense to the opening. The next thing wee see is cylindrical rods moving at high speeds you don’t realise what these are this builds suspense the camera zooms out to reveal what the rods are they are silk strands in a web this relates to spiders there is more spider webs for a bit but soon the credits change to have a red outline, they resemble red blood vessels. The webs start to make a binding action like it is capturing something which relates to how the alter ego of spider man takes over peter parker. Later the webs are inside a vein or artery this shows the webs are inside him and are infecting him more you see this in the movie as peter uses his powers more. You start to see human features like a fist this shows that the human is fighting the spider infection but as the credits continue the human features are chests and heads this shows that he is become more spider. After spider man has been established the green goblins head appears briefly this establishes a character for the film to base spider mans adventures.

film deconstruction (Napoleon Dynamite)

Film: Napoleon Dynamite
Director: Jared Hess
Year of release: 2004
Certificate: 12

The first two minutes of the film are credits they consist of different plates of food being put on a carpet or rug there is something missing in every dish whether it is flavouring on crisps or vegetables to go with steak or the fact that there isn’t a table there it is just put on the floor this reflects napoleons life there is something missing. The song that accompanies the title sequence is jack Johnson’s ‘we are gunna be friends’ this relates to the movie because napoleon makes friends with a Mexican boy previously he had no friends. The steak is a reference to the story as well because it comes after other dishes that were slightly better which resembles napoleons grandma going away and uncle Rico looking after him he only makes steak for napoleon which makes his life that much more repetitive.

match on action

Match on action
This is the editing process where the editor matches all the shoots so it look as though they were filmed by different cameras at the same time when really the director will have moved the camera and got the actor to do exactly the same sequence again so he got it from another angle for instance if the actor walks through a door then the director move the camera to the other side of the door and the actor walks through again it gives the impression that there were two cameras rolling.

180 degree rule

180 Degree Rule.
The 180 degree rule is a rule that helps continuity in filming it keeps the actors on the side they started on. If you start you’re filming on the green side of the diagram you must stay on that side unless you film yourself crossing the line.
